Tour Program 

The aim of the tour program is to give a fair picture of Tampere and Finland; its way of life, past and present and to introduce guests to Finnish culture, arts and design. An English-speaking tour guide will lead all bus ours. Other languages for groups of 25 people minimum can be requested from the conference secretariat. The conference secretariat reserves the right to cancel a tour if there are not enough pre-bookings.

Tampere – a Beautiful City between the Lakes 
Thursday 8 August at 15.00-17.30 
and Friday 9 August at 13.30-16.00

Included in the accompanying person’s and children’s fee,

This guided sightseeing tour will introduce you to the main attractions of Tampere. You will learn about Tampere’s history and see how things are done today. You will discover that Tampere is a vibrant industrial centre with beautiful surrounding scenery – lakes and forests, parks and open-air markets. Some major sights are: Central Square and the Cathedral, picturesque Pispala village, Pyynikki Ridge and Park.The tour starts and ends at Tampere Hall.

A Short Cruise on Lake Pyhäjärvi
Friday 9 August at 12.00-13.30

Price: EUR 12

See your conference town from the lake perspective. Step aboard and let the boat take you out on the lake for a 90-minute cruise. Departure and arrival from Laukontori Quay in the city centre. Commentary on tape in English, no tour guide along on his cruise, but here is a fully licensed restaurant onboard.

A Full Day Tour to Rauma
Friday 10 August at 8.00-18.00

Price: EUR 75

Rauma, Finland’s third oldest town was founded in 1441. Rauma is a good f ive centuries old. It is often called "the Pearl of Finland's west coast ". The Old Rauma district shows you Finland's wooden architecture in its best-preserved condition. Old Rauma was the first site in Finland to be placed on he UNESCO World Heritage List. People still live, work, trade and shop in Old Rauma. You may also visit the Franciscan monastery church, various museums and charming little curiosity shops. The tradition of lace making in Rauma dates back to the 1700’s. Elegant lace is still the best-known product of Rauma today. A delicious lunch at a wooden villa built in the 18th century and coffee with Finnish pastries will complete your wonderful day on the West Coast of Finland.

Finnish Arts and Design
Saturday 10 August at 9.00-16.30

Price: EUR 75

This coach tour takes you to the beautiful surroundings of Tampere. We will introduce to you some of the best-known artists and designers in Finland. You will visit Visavuori, the 19th century home and studio of the well-known Finnish sculptor Emil Wikström and meet a gobelin and stained glass artist in her private studio. You ’ll become familiar with the fascinating history of glass in the museum and see glass blowing at the famous Iittala factory. On site little shops with their chocolate, honey and textile goods are also worth visiting. A delicious home cooked lunch will be served in a farm restaurant. Have a walk in the farmyard and take a deep breath of fresh air. Just relax and indulge yourself!

A Lunch Cruise on Lake Pyhäjärvi
Saturday 10 August at 13.30-16.50

Price: EUR 45

A relaxing cruise on Lake Pyhäjärvi – experience the beautiful scenery and waterside surroundings of Tampere. A delicious homemade lunch will be served on board. Departure and arrival from Laukontori Quay in he city centre.
