Program
All conference participants and accompanying persons are
warmly invited
to
take part in the social events.
You
can register for these by completing the
appropriate part of the registration form. Please, note that
prior
registration
is needed even if the event is included in the registration
fee. Some
of the events are not included for exhibitors but
tickets can be purchased from the Conference Secreariat.
Thursday 8 August
Opening Ceremony at 19.00-20.30
Get-Together Party at 20.30-22.30
The Opening Ceremony and the Get-Together
Party will take
place at the
Congress centre. We shall hear the
speech of Minister of Health and Social Services Eeva
Biaudet,also mother
of four children.Tampere Hall, located in Tampere City
centre, will provide a stimulating setting for meeting old
friends and colleagues and making new friends. A warm,
cultural programme will make us feel at home in the
conference and introduces us to our theme with artistic
ways. A Finnish buffet will be served.
Friday 9 August
City Reception at
18.00-19.30
The City of Tampere welcomes all participants,
accompanying persons and exhibitors to a cocktail reception,
which will take place at he Town Hall in the city centre.
Dress may be informal.
Open-air Dance and Finnish Evening at Viikinsaari Island at 19.30-23.30
After the city reception we will walk to Laukontori Quay
from where we will board the ferry to take us to Viikinsaari
Island, a short 20 minutes away from Tampere City centre.
You can spend a typical Finnish summer evening on a
traditional dance floor, in the picturesque surroundings of
nature. A barbeque dinner with delicious Finnish food will
be served. This is also a perfect chance to experience a
traditional Finnish sauna bath with a swim in the lake to
follow! Finnish colleagues will make sure that your evening
will be a pleasant one. Please wear good shoes for dancing
and walking outdoors. You might want to bring along a warm
sweater or light coat for this outdoor event.
Saturday
10 August
Conference Dinner at 19.00-23.30
We are pleased to invite you to join us for the
Conference Dinner at Särkänniemi Adventure Park.The bottlenose dolphins
at the dolphinarium will welcome us. After the dolphin show and official speeches,
we will have dinner at the top of the Näsinneula Observation
Tower. This observation tower, 168 meters high, is situated near downtown Tampere
with a magnificent view of the city and Lake
Näsijärvi.We hope you enjoy he company of your fellow delegates,
delicious food and drinks, music, and dancing.Youngsters will have
their
own disco/dinner downstairs.
Sunday 11 June
Closing Ceremony at 12.00-13.00
The Closing Ceremony will take place in Tampere Hall's Main
Auditorium.We
will summarise all that we have learned and experienced during our conference days.
There will be entertainment by Finnish artists. The program will be followed
by the closing lunch.
Site visits
On Friday and Saturday there is a possibility to visit
Family Suppor Centers in Tampere and Western Finland
District Office of Save the Children Finland. The Family
Support Centers offer community- and institutional care as
well as family rehabilitation services. One of the centers
offers a meeting place and support services for intocxicant
abusing families. Save the Children works with family care,
holiday homes, foster care and adoptions.
Silent Auction
The silent auction is a fundraising action for the
benefit of the IFCO. All participants are asked to bring
items – large or small – to he conference. Throughout
the conference, everyone will have an opportunity to bid for
each item. We do wait interesting items from around Europe!
Exhibition
Exhibition space available. All parties interested in
foster care, sponsors and other, are welcome to present
their products and services at display. Please, contact
Conference Secreteriat.
Meetings
The Finnish Federation of Foster Care Associations will
have its annual summer meeting on Saturday.
Travel grants
The Organising Committee is trying to raise funds in
order to suppor the travel costs of a number of participants
from the CEE (Central and Eastern European) and CIS
(Commonwealth of Independent States) countries. The
conference program will also include a "mini-course
" focusing on the development of foster care and foster
care associations in the nearby areas of Finland. Active
participation in the conference program will be required
from all beneficiaries of the travel grants. Please send
your conference registration form and give your reasons for
financial support in writing by April 1, 2002, to Conference
Secretariat (address on the last page of this brochure).
